Microsoft Edge + Bing feature request!
Microsoft Edge has upgraded its experience for the users.
It’s sleek in terms of visual design (colors, fonts, icons, tone of voice and integrated BING Search plus Copilot AI Chat search assistant.
“From a value perspective, its ecosystem now offers more value for money compared to the Apple ecosystem and is gaining an advantage over the Google ecosystem.”
However, there is one feature I need from the Microsoft Edge, Bing and Windows team as an independent creator.
That is AUTO SAVE Web Capture!
Let me describe it in my best possible way.
1.
When you are doing internal research or creating a mood board Web Capture is a very useful tool. You right click and find the Web Capture option from the list.
2.
It gives you 2 options:
- CAPTURE AREA: Capture desired area from the web page.
- CAPTURE FULL PAGE: You can capture full page… which is different from print screen feature… because it will scroll down the full length of the web page and will generate an image like a long slip strip.
3.
And when you select the desired area, it shows a mini–Tool Tip type menu. So, it has 3 options.
- Copy 2. Markup Capture 3. Visual Search
There is no SAVE option! WHY?
On the other hand, Web Capture Full Page has a SAVE option.
Though, when you select SAVE it will ask you to specify the name of the file, and location. It is pretty time consuming to do this in the times of fast paced life and era of automations.
Here I would like to cite 2 existing models.
1. Apple Mac book
It automatically saves your screen captures on desktop naming screenshot with the time and date stamp.
2. Samsung Smartphone
If you take a screen shot on a Samsung Smartphone it sends screen shots in the Gallery a folder called SCREEN SHOTS automatically with the time and date stamp along with the embedded URL of the webpage. It is such a helpful feature.
Why?
Because a user is taking screen shots for internal reference to view and follow up later. Samsung screen shots also remember the URL… so if you are following up something for work after 2–3 months chances are you may not remember which website or web page you taken this screen shot. So, following back to URL through screen shot you can go back to web page and can revisit the context.
SO, WHAT IS MY SUGGESTION
1.
Add SAVE option as well apart from previous features.
2.
Create a default destination folder in Windows OS.
3.
…And here is the full experience loop flow diagram.
When user after selecting the area chooses to save it automatically captures the date and time stamp along with the web page URL and saves it in the Web Captures Default folder.
KEY USER BENEFITS
- don’t need to choose…copy and paste into the image editor like paint or any drafting software.
- No need to write name of the file before saving.
- No need to crop… post saving the image in to paint for desired portion.
- Since, naming is done with time and date stamp searching by date or grouping by month or year will be a breeze.
- And if, URL also embedded into image name then recalling and revisiting web page can be done and remove a lot of cognitive loads from user’s head.
